Last night as I was watching the Apprentice, the breaking news caption came on. I could not help, but think how unsettling that was. I cannot remember this happening before, and started to look at twitter and all the news, and no one wanted to break the story. After an hour of waiting The President spoke. He spoke with direct eloquence, and there it was. Osama Bin laden is dead.
A range of emotions came over me. Some great jubilance came over me and remembering the 911 victims and those that were affected, but then as I was watching the news last night and this morning I noticed that we were acting much like some of the Radical Islamic World when something bad happens to Americans. There were incredible displays of celebration as we as Americans have been waiting for this day for nearly 10 years. The USA USA chants went on in baseball games and all of that is good, but what is not is the distasteful signs with Osama's head and other nasty sayings.
I remember when 911 happened and the media had coverage on people in Palestine and they were celebrating like the best thing ever happened to that country was going on. I was angry. I was outraged.
America is better than that. America responds with dignity and class. This is a huge day in America, but lets not forget why America is great. Lets respond with class. Many believe Osama Bin Laden is a horrible human being, but there are some that do not. Some that may mourn for this man. Some of his family that may have nothing to do with his actions may be mourning today.
Yes America and most of the world is happy, but lets have some compassion and respond with class.
