For those of you who know me personally other then my blogs you know that I am an avid Sports Fan. I live and breath sports. Most people who call themselves sports fans may be a sports fan for one sport and not for others. Myself I love everything about every sport. Most of all I love the Competition.
So I am sitting there yesterday on a Sunday morning, and I bring my daughter to play soccer at the neighboring park. We play for a little while, and she like most 3 year old princesses says she is hot. We go home and I look at the sports schedule. Wow what a schedule. You mean I get to watch:
- The Amazing Ryder Cup at 12:00 to 6:00 PM
- My beloved Miami Dolphins at 1:00 PM
- The rest of the NFL games at 4:00 PM
- The Dallas Cowboys vs. the Green Bay Packers
- The last game at Yankee Stadium vs. Baltimore Orioles at 8:00
This is probably the first day I can remember that I really hope nobody calls me to do business as I am so geared up for the day of all sports. I am watching the Ryder Cup where the U.S takes a slight lead with Kim, and then 2 Kentucky natives Kenny Perry, and JB Holmes. I flip over to the Dolphin game at 1:00, and honestly getting ready to be disappointed again, but then something happens...
The Dolphins must have changed jerseys with the Patriots as this is not the Dolphins I remember. This must be a dream. I am a Dolphin season ticket holder for the last 15 years, and have not missed many games over that span. We have not been in the playoffs in 6 years, and have won a grand total of 1 game in our last 18. Ouch. So there I am watching an absolutely stellar performance by my Dolphins to which I have not seen since Dan Marino retired. I flip over and I see the U.S is looking like they are going to bring home the cup for the first time in 9 years. Wow. It has really started great. I look over and it is already 4:00 PM
I change the channel to start watching the Jacksonville vs. Indy game, and the Denver vs. New Orleans game. They both go to the wire where Jacksonville's kicker Josh Scobee makes a 51 yard field goal to beat Indy, and Gramatica for New Orleans misses a 51 yard field goal to lose to vs. Denver. So needless to say this sports day gets better and better.
The best of the day though has to be saying goodbye to Yankee Stadium. I am not a NY fan, but I am a traditionalist, and love the stories, and history of Yankee Stadium. Actually I love everything about it. I have only been to Yankee Stadium once, but that once still sends chills down my spine.
In 2003 the Florida Marlins made another unexpected trip to the World Series to face the might Yankees. In game 1 of the World Series, I was already up in NY because my father-in-law was having heart surgery. I tried to get tickets, and it became really tough so I bought a ticket from a ticket broker. I took the train to the Bronx with my Marlins Jersery on, and mind you I am alone. I just had to see my Marlins vs. the Yankees. Since I have never been to Yankee Stadium I took it all in. Just walking through Yankee Stadium to find my seats was just amazing knowing that Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Joe Dimaggio, and Lou Gehrig played here. I took my seats in Monument Park out in left field, and the young Marlins ended up beating the Yankees. I was a little loud, but not too loud as it was the Bronx, and I was only 1 person. Before the game the NY fans were great. After the game I took a taxi cab as I actually was fearful. There were a lot of people who did not look like upstanding citizens who threatened my life a couple times. I always liked yellow cars anyway.
So that is my story of what a wonderful day I had. Does anyone else have a great sports day story or better yet a Yankee Stadium Story!!
