Boca Raton trys to regulate Wireless Carriers.

Boca Raton city officials continue to review and research the proposed new ordinance that would regulate wireless communications towers.

Originally, it has been interpreted that wireless carriers do not need to seek permits to expand their network or build new towers.  The City is trying to find out how they can regulate these wireless carriers.

What brought this to light was last year Palm Beach Farms residents heard that T-Mobile was going to build a cell phone tower in the community.  Needless to say many were outraged to find out they really could do nothing about it.  However, Boca Raton officials have tried to work with these wireless carriers, and talks are ongoing about the tower, and future towers in their city.

The city of Boca and wireless representatives were set for the 3rd time to have ea meeting, but that has been put off due to the complexity of the meeting.

Can anyone say NIMBY??

Not unusual.  The carriers in my area pay $500 to home owners.  I know a real estate agents representing the carrier that solicits locations.

Of course, neighbors are not always pleased.

Lenn, thank you for your comment.  I just think it is kind of nuts that a wireless carriers do not have to live by the same rules as a builder or business
