Many of us adore Tiger as not just the golfer, but as a person. His persona has been displayed through the media over the last 15 years or more. We see the calm collected and ultra competitive spirit that makes Tiger who he is. If you were like me, I saw the perfect athlete and role model. One who just has it together.
Now we look at him differently. We see that no person can be totally perfect. We see a man who obviously has a problem. He obviously is a very compulsive person whether he is on the driving range or with the many women he apparently has been with while he is married. We look at all the problems he has faced over the week, and many have come out to his defense. Many have said it is not our business. Well I do not believe that is entirely fair. You can't have your cake and eat it to. The media made the billion dollar enterprise he is today. The media has always had an affinity towards Tiger and has positively shed him as the perfect athlete for so many years now that he has made some horrible decisions in his personal life we shood look away. Well again you can't have your cake and eat it to.

It is the human desire to see those that seem to have it all taken down, if they are considered or perceived to have strong morals. We even see this in our industry. There is an agent here that one of his staff stole $250,000 last month. I have heard very similar comments made about the agent.....e.g. he can afford it...etc...
It is sad and unfair that those that are not considered to have strong morals or ethics can do this and the public accepts it...quite a bit better. If this was John Daly, it would have gotten very little press. It is not right, but it is reality.
My thoughts about Tiger hasn't changed one bit.
He is a champion and I love a champion.
His private life is his business, not mine.
I just want him to get back in condition, be well and compete vigorously in 2010.
Until Tiger begins to give marital advice to consumers, he's the same Tiger to me. A champion. I love a champion.
I'm sorry, but I do think that athletes need to be held to a different standard. I know I'm old-fashioned and there are many that don't agree with me, but accepting an endorsement contract means you have accepted the obligation to uphold the image that endorsement represents. There is a mental aspect to all games and the success of the athlete and person - I really don't believe you can separate performance from ethics and morality - it's all part of the image.
Lenn thank you for your comment. I do agree with you. Who does not love a champion, but there is a difference here. I believe the true character of a person comes out in how he or she deals with adversity. Tiger deals unbelievably well under adversity on the golf course, but the way he dealt with this situation was horrible. The morals and values of a man or woman is important to me. I love a champion, but I also love the person first. I want to be able to root for someone who I admire, and this has changed my opinion of Tiger. I will however keep an open mind and wait for him to come out in an interview and give his side of the story.
Tim thank you for your comment.
Susan I so agree with you. If you want to be in the spotlight you can't just be in the spotlight when everything is going well.
I wish people would just leave him and his family alone. It's his issue to work out and no one elses business.
Jeff I just do not agree with that. So in that case the media should only report the positive light of Tiger, but not the negative? The media and his PR firm has made him billions of dollars on him being a role model. Do you want your son to idolize Tiger Woods and all that has come out with his lies and affairs. I really think it is horrible that everyone wants everyone to leave him alone. They so vehemently defend him. Why not get the whole story and then make an informed opinion.
